Great North Ventures Leads $2M Seed Round for NROC Security to Secure Employee Use of GenAI

NROC Security

Minneapolis and New York – September 29, 2025 – Great North Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, today announced it is leading a $2 million seed funding round for NROC Security, an innovative AI security company headquartered in New York and Helsinki, Finland. Additional investors in the round include Icebreaker.vc and Hannu Turunen (cofounder of Stonesoft through IPO) and Leo Capital. The new funding will accelerate NROC Security’s growth amid rising demand for GenAI security solutions that prevent data leaks and compliance gaps when enterprise employees use GenAI apps, like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.

The rapid adoption of generative AI presents new challenges for enterprises as adoption among employees grows. NROC Security’s purpose-built security solution governs access to GenAI apps, guardrails both prompts and responses, and produces evidence of employee compliance with policies.

“NROC Security’s network-based AI security proxy sets a new bar for GenAI security with one-step integration into existing systems,” said Rob Weber, Managing Partner at Great North Ventures. “The solution can be service chained from secure web gateways, allowing businesses to inspect every interaction with GenAI tools without deploying end-point agents or browser plugins. This not only makes deployment faster—in days rather than months—but also provides comprehensive visibility and policy enforcement features that companies desperately need to secure their data.”

NROC Security targets middle-market and large enterprises whose employees are adopting GenAI tools. According to a recent research report from MIT, 90% of employees surveyed are using personal LLM accounts (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc), which is creating a “shadow AI economy” that is difficult for their employers to manage for data security. The NROC Security solution is available as a SaaS subscription, making it an attractive solution for mid-market and enterprise customers alike.

A case study published on NROC’s website details how its solution enabled a large enterprise to secure GenAI and unleash personal productivity and innovation.

“We are thrilled to partner with Great North Ventures as we continue to grow,” said Antti Reijonen, CEO of NROC Security. “This investment will help us scale our team and expand our solution to let even more security teams champion employee use of GenAI apps.”
